The mission of the Western North Carolina Library Network is to foster active cooperation and collaboration among the member libraries in order to provide the highest possible level of information and library services to the students, faculty and staffs of the member institutions.
Approved by the WNCLN Board of Directors, May 29, 1997
The founding members of the Western North Carolina Library Network are Appalachian State University, the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and Western Carolina University.
WNCLN was established in 1986 for the purpose of acquiring an Integrated Library System (ILS) and creating a mechanism for sharing library resources.
A Board of Directors consisting of the University Librarians of each member institution and an administrative officer appointed by the Chief Executive Officer of each institution determine Network policy. In addition, there are a number of functional committees, ongoing practices, and formal agreements which articulate the Network's general commitment to resource sharing.
